MS How to Apply

Master of Science (M.S.)

How to apply:
Candidates are encouraged to use the online application system to apply for any research program offered by the department. The details of the online system are available at: http://research.iitm.ac.in/

Eligibility:
Undergraduate degree in engineering or a post-graduate degree in sciences/arts/commerce

Qualifying examination:
Any one of the following national examination could serve as the qualifying examination for the admission to the MS program. However, this is a qualifying criterion and not a selection criterion.
· Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) conducted by Indian Institute of Technology
· Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by Indian Institute of Management
· Management Aptitude Test (MAT) conducted by All India Management Association
· National Eligibility Test (NET) of the University Grants Commission (UGC)
· Junior Research Fellowship or Lectureship examination conducted by Council for Scientific and Industrial Research

Candidates with university ranks and/or candidates with at least two years of managerial experience are eligible to request for exemption from qualifying examination. However, department may ask these candidates to appear for domain specific departmental examination.

 
Doctoral program (Ph.D.)

Eligibility
Post graduate degree in Sciences / Social Sciences / Commerce / Humanities / Engineering / Technology / Management with a first class or equivalent or a minimum of 60% marks or CGPA of 6.5 or equivalent.

Qualifying Examination
Any one of the following national examination could serve as the qualifying examination for the admission to the PhD program. However, this is a qualifying criterion and not a selection criterion.
·Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) conducted by Indian Institute of Technology
·Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by Indian Institute of Management
·Management Aptitude Test (MAT) conducted by All India Management Association
·National Eligibility Test (NET) of the University Grants Commission (UGC)
·Junior Research Fellowship or Lectureship examination conducted by Council for Scientific and Industrial Research
·Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)

The following categories of candidates are exempt from the qualifying examinations:
·Candidates with postgraduate degree in engineering
·Candidates with MBA or PGDM from IITs, IIMs, XLRI and NITIE
·Candidates with at least five years of managerial experience are eligible to request for exemption from qualifying examination. However, department may ask these candidates to appear for domain specific departmental examination.
